Intra-Ocular Lenses
During cataract surgery, your ophthalmologist plans to place an artificial intra-ocular lens in your eye.
The standard monofocal intra-ocular lens can correct distance vision only. You will be unable to see at near without reading glasses. You will also need distance glasses if you have astigmatism.
Now, new technology allows us to correct astigmatism and presbyopia (the inability to see at near). Advanced intra-ocular lens technology allows us to provide you with opportunities for better vision.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY LENSES
ASTIGMATISM CORRECTING LENSES:
Many patients have been forced to wear glasses for most of their lives because of astigmatism. These lenses are highly effective at reducing astigmatism. Most patients, after surgery, can function well for distance activities without glasses.
The results of the FDA clinical trial with the Toric lens were as follows:
- 97% of patients who received the Toric lens in both eyes had spectacle free distance vision.

ACTIVE FOCUS LENSES:
The Crystalens and Restor lens can treat both cataracts and presbyopia (the inability to see well up close).
Crystalens uses the natural focusing ability of the eye. This lens implant uses the eye muscle to flex and accommodate in order to focus on objects that are at different distances.
Restor uses different focus zones to allow you to focus at near and distance after implantation.

While cataract surgery with customized intraocular lens implantation frequently results in a reduced dependency or even complete freedom from eye glasses, it is never possible guarantee complete freedom from glasses after surgery. Surgery has associated risks, review the consent form and ask your ophthalmologists questions to ensure you have all the information you need before making decisions.
